Conference
EU Secure and Innovative Digital Future

About the event

There is no doubt that ensuring cyber security of state and citizens is essential in today’s world. We need to know how to tackle new challenges and how to adapt promptly to new situations. Therefore, cyber security is the key political priority of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU.  This two days conference is organised as one of the major events of the Presidency and is fully dedicated to crucial security issues of today.

The event will be opened by video speeches delivered by Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

The first day, with the title Prague Cyber Security Conference 2022, will focus on topic of supply chain security in the light of cybersecurity of the state critical infrastructure.

The second day, titled Towards a Secure and Innovative Ecosystem, will look closely at digital technologies such as artificial intelligence and secure data flows in the EU and outside the EU. In the centre of discussions will be also the question how to support technological autonomy of the EU, foster digital innovations and last but not least the phenomenon of disinformation in online world. Dozens of Czech and foreign speakers will present their views on the matter - cyber security and defence experts, industry leaders, experts from European Union institutions and leading politicians and legislators.

And there is something more. If you are interested in issues related to children´s safety online, you are invited to a side event which will be held on 2 November. You will have an opportunity to see a Czech documentary “Caught in the Net” about online predators. After the projection you can join a follow-up expert debate.

The event will be held in English. Simultaneous interpretation to Czech language will be provided for the side event on the Wednesday 2 November and Day2 (Friday 4 November).

Secure and innovative digital ecosystem: New European Innovation Agenda

In recent years, the European Commission has been very active in its efforts to ensure a safe and innovative digital ecosystem. To achieve this objective, it has introduced a number of initiatives aiming to set conditions and rules for the digital environment. To ensure a secure digital ecosystem, a number of legislative proposals have been introduced. Nevertheless, the regulatory initiatives must be balanced with sufficient provisions that create favourable conditions not only for research and development, but also for the use of smart digital solutions that will increase the competitiveness of the European economy. In this context, New European Innovation Agenda has been presented with the objective to position Europe as a leading player on the global innovation scene. Will the proposed actions be sufficient to achieve such ambitious goals?

Break-out sessions

Panel 1:

Facing Challenges: Safe and Secure Artificial Intelligence

To remain competitive in today's world, businesses must be able and willing to use smart digital solutions. One of the options how to make our work more efficient is to use artificial intelligence systems, which have been developing very dynamically in recent years and and the number of their use cases has grown significantly. However, it is necessary to create an adequate environment to ensure the development of AI systems that are both safe and secure. What tools do we have at the moment to achieve these goals?

Panel 2:

EU as key player in the data economy

Whether it's fast and accurate diagnosis of health problems using AI, autonomously parked cars, or energy grids using machine learning, all of the smart solutions require data on which algorithms can operate. Efficient and transparent data sharing will have a positive impact on the economy of the future. In this panel, we would like to focus on directions and means how to support the development of the data economy to make the EU a world leader in this area. We would like to discuss how we can support companies to operate in the data economy and how we can ensure effective digital governance/management in the data and digital economy.

Panel 3:

Cross-border data flows for the EU´s digital future

Digitization vastly transformed international trade. Businesses increasingly rely on automated and digitalized processes ranging from communication to customs procedures or service delivery itself. Transferring data became one of the key elements of competitiveness and innovation in the global digital economy. Nevertheless, disturbing efforts towards unjustified protection of data emerge, restricting or even totally banning the cross-border flow of data. Several countries strive to facilitate trusted data transfers, although at different speeds. The panel aims to focus on how best to operationalize the abstract, yet essential data flows.

Safe Internet: Facing the Current Disinformation

Disinformation has become a phenomenon that is an unwanted, but basically integral part of the internet world. How can we face it? National governments, the EU, non-governmental organisations, all come up with many actions and strategies in order to tackle these fraudulent and abusive practices. However, are these truly effective? And what role should the education system play?
